The Gospel of Mark – 1:1-20

This teaching was given by Pastor Barry Forder at our family service on 29th April 2018.

This week we started a new verse-by-verse study of the Gospel of Mark.

Mark’s gospel is a fast-paced apologetic (defense of the faith), written in the main for a gentile audience.

Mark was converted as you man, probably still in his teenage years, and built a strong friendship with the Apostle Peter, whom it seems was the one who brought him to faith in Jesus Christ. Mark was captivated by the man, Jesus Christ of Nazareth, and quizzed Peter extensively about what it had been like to walk with Jesus for 3 1/2 years. In his gospel, Mark records Peter’s first-hand eyewitness account, barely stopping to take a breath in his excitement and fascination of who Jesus was and what it had been like to have been called to follow Him!

In chapter one alone, Mark records:

–The miracle of fulfilled prophecy

–The miracle of forgiveness of sin

–The miracle of Jesus Christ

–The miracle of the Holy Spirit

–The baptism of Jesus

–The Temptation in the wilderness

–The imprisonment of John

–The teaching & message of Jesus

–The calling of the disciples

–The authority of Jesus (over the scribes)

–The authority of Jesus (over demons)

–The authority of Jesus (over sickness)

–The authority of Jesus (over the impossible)

May you be blessed and encouraged by this study!

You can listen to the audio on this web page, or save it for listening to later. The powerpoint slides used in this study are available for download to help with, and to encourage you to undertake, your own study of this remarkable gospel.

Every blessing in Him,

Pastor Barry.
