Subject: God's Timing (Calendar)

Okay, soß we're going to ask Lekan to come back up and to share with us now what the Lord has laid upon his heart.


 Thank you so much, Barry.

 Good morning, church.

 I'm so delighted to be with us today.
 It's a great privilege every time I stand before people and just be able to share from God's word.
 It's a great privilege.
 It is, in a way, it is a big, big blessing.
 And I always say to people, and I don't know when it will change or maybe it will never change.
 I hope I can communicate to you everything that I felt I have received.
 It is really hard.
 So when I'm speaking today, I'm speaking to you based on what God has revealed to me, what God is teaching me, what God is doing in my life.
 But I don't know even if I can communicate half of that to you.
 So just catch wherever you can catch.
 And I pray God will - will just bless us and speak to our hearts, really, because it's all about him.
 It's none of us.
 Like Barry said, when we get to heaven, when we turn up, it will be nothing that I've done.
 In fact, everything that I've done is the opposite.
 It's all about what he has done.
 So it's all about what Christ has done.
 And that's why we are here.
 And I want to say specifically, please continue to pray for Nigeria.
 As you know, I don't need to tell you the detail.
 You know what's going on.
 Thank God it's coming out on the surface, but it's getting really, really serious.
 And now it's beginning to knock on my own door.
 And when I say that, my state now is now under some attack.
 Just in this past week, there has been a serious bandit attack on a certain group in my own state, which is in the south.
 So in a way, it's really knocking on my door, to use that expression.
 But we know, we know as Christians.
 It's a matter of time.
 But please just keep praying for the people of Nigeria, especially for the Christians.
 You see, this is what I've read in a newspaper.
 When Trump did what he did on the Christmas day, on the 26th or 25th.
 So the newspaper reported that it wasn't true what Trump said.
 When he said Christians are being attacked.
 So they really …  They quoted him wrong.
 He said primarily Christians.
 So this is the way the media twist the words.
 He said primarily Christians, and that is correct.
 And they said, no, no, no, that's not true.
 Muslims are dying as well.
 Yes, it's true.
 Muslims are dying as well, but primarily Christians.
 Look at the statistics.
 Look at the numbers.
 But anyway, on a more positive note, let's focus on the Lord.
 Let's focus on what he wants us to do.
 Let's do that.
 So thank you so much, Pastor Barry.
 Thank you for this great privilege to stand before God's people and to share his word.


 And I feel today I'll be sharing with us from John 7.
 Please permit me.
 I will have to use my slide.
 And you will have to listen a little bit harder because I've got an accent.
 So don't switch off.
 Don't sleep.
 Okay? Make sure you stay with me.
 And if I notice you're falling asleep, I will say you stay with me.
 I'll do the African way.
 Okay? I'll tap the floor.
 And that wakes you up.
 You know, sometimes it's quite funny.
 We do say that to people.
 When you see a preacher doing that, it's not necessarily because anything is happening, but you saw someone sleeping and he's trying to say, wake up.
 Wake up.
 I'm speaking.
 Anyway, I hope nobody falls asleep.
 And if you do, I'll wake you up.
 Right.


 So today we are going to learn from John 7.
 And I want to go from verse 1 to 39.
 I'll try to be as quick as I can.
 And just see what God will speak to us.
 So if you have your Bible, you can open with me.
 And we can read together.
 I'll try and break it down as I go along.

“After these things, Jesus walked in Galilee.
 For he did not want to walk in Judea.
 Because the Jews sought to kill him.
 Now, the Jews' feast of tabernacles was at hand.”

 So we read that Jesus, did not want to go, did not want to walk in Judea for a particular reason.
 Not because he was afraid.
 Jesus was not a weak man.
 Not because he lacked courage.
 But for a particular reason.
 He was waiting for the perfect timing.
 And this is the first thing that came up to me when I was reading the scripture.
 That God's timing, God's calendar is very key to everything Jesus did.

 And it taught me how much more we, as children of God, as children of light, we should walk according to his timing.
 Now, it was the feast of the tabernacle was at hand.
 So this was a joyful, week-long celebration in September or October when families came out in the temporary shelters.
 Some people call it the feast of Sukkot, or whatever they call it.
 But it was a celebration of the tabernacle.
 And we're going to go into the detail of that later.
 To remember God's faithfulness to Israel in the wilderness on their way from Egypt to Canaan, under Moses.
 We know, or we don't know, what happened to them, and how they went, and how they go through the wilderness, and what happened to them in detail.
 So they have the feast of the tabernacle as a reminder, as a commemoration, to remind their people to see God's faithfulness.
 How he watched over them.
 How he helped them through their wilderness journey.
 And we read in verse 3, 
“His brothers therefore said to him, Depart from here,”
 speaking to Jesus, 
“and go into Judea, that your disciples also may see the works that you are doing.
 For no one does this thing in secret, while he himself seeks to be known hoping.”

 That wasn't underlined, by the way, in your Bible.
 I underlined mine.
 If you do these things, show yourself to the world, for his brothers did not believe in him.
 So we read,
“ His brothers said to him, Jesus, look, you are doing a lot of things.
 Go into Judea.
 Go and show yourself.
 Go and declare to people who you are.”
 But this is what they know.
 Jesus knew who he was.
 Jesus doesn't go identity problem.
 In fact, Jesus hasn't come to impress them.
 Jesus hasn't come to show them that they are not God.
  Jesus hasn't come to show them off.
 Because he knew who he was, with no doubt.
 He was not seeking human approval.
 He knew where he came from, and he knew where he was going.
 He kept a low profile, not wanting to draw attention to himself, until, again, the right time.
 

So Jesus wasn't just doing things at random, like many Christians do.
 Jesus wasn't just a random person, to put it that way.
 Everything was according to God's plan, and according to God's calendar.
 Jesus knew when to hide.
 He knew when to speak, and when not to.
 Especially in this day and age, where everyone has an opinion.
 Have you noticed that? Everyone has got something to say.
 Even in the church.
 Everything has got to go through them.
 But Jesus wasn't like that.
 He knew when to speak.
 He knew when not to.
 He knew when to hide himself.
 You see, there is a set time for everything in God's calendar.
 And as followers of Jesus, we must seek to discern and know when is the right time to speak, and when is not.
 His brother said to him, Show yourself to the world.
 Jesus doesn't need to show himself, because they know who he is.
 And he is secured in who he is.
 Can you even believe it in verse 5? Even his brothers did not believe in him.
 And yet they said to him, Show yourself.
 That is very interesting, isn't it? These so-called people that are saying to you, Come on, we're afraid, show yourself.
 By the way, we don't believe in you, but show yourself.
 It sounds quite funny.
 Although we realized later, the brothers believed, and they were part of God.
 And they were part of the apostles.
 But at this point in time, they didn't even believe it.
 They didn't believe him as the Messiah.
 So verse 6, it says, 
“Then Jesus said to them, My time has not yet come, but your time is always ready.”
 It's like, guys, you've got no problem.
 You can go.
 The world has got nothing against you, but against me.
 The world cannot hate you, but it hates me because I testify of it, that it works as evil.
 You go up to this feast.
 I am not yet.
 He didn't say, I'm not going.
 Okay? He said, I'm not yet.
 So I would go, but not now.
 This is not the right time.
 When the right time comes, I will go to the feast.
 For my time has not yet fully come.
 When he has said these things, he remained in Galilee.
 Because Jesus was completely submitted to the will of the Father, the timing of God the Father was important.
 As Jesus obeyed his Father, he lived out of the truth that God's timing is an important expression of his will.
 Something may be in God's will, but not yet in his timing.
 Have you ever experienced that? Many times I've experienced that.
 Many times I've gone a little bit too quick.
 
I thought, oh, I wish I waited an hour later.
It's not even because it's not God's will.
 You know, sometimes you pray, Lord, what is your will? And sometimes God even reveals to us what his will is, but we run ahead.
 And sometimes we're a little bit too behind.
 So God's timing is very essential.
 It might even be his will.
 You might be thinking, Lord, I don't know what to do.
 Or God gives you a revelation about something.
 Or God puts a desire into your heart for you to do it at the wrong time, which means you won't get the result or he won't get the glory.
 And we are going to go into detail later.
 The world has no problem with the people of the world.
 Jesus said to his brother, they've got no problem with you.
 You can go.
 And we as Christians, I don't know about you, but I have seen that.
 When I've been out on the streets preaching the gospel, I've had people say to me, you guys are strange.
 You guys are hard.
 You are weird, to use that term.
 They see us as a strange one because we are the light.
 So they have no problem with Jesus' brothers, but they have a problem with Jesus because of who he claimed to be and because of what he does.
 In Matthew 5, verse 10 to 12, we should be encouraged.
 It says, blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
 Blessed are you.

 When people call you names, when people say all the things against you, when people call you strange, when people get you wrong, when people think sometimes we are mad, how could you believe? This was the first thing that happened to me when I became a Christian.
 I was so excited, I was so happy that I found this freedom in Christ.
 And because my father's side of the family, if you don't know, is dominantly Muslim.
 And I went to him.
 And I went to my father's side of home.
 I'm like, look, I found Jesus with that excitement.
 And they looked at me like, what is wrong with you? So they said to me what they said to Jesus.
 We'll go into that later.
 We are deceived.
 You will come back.
 They said that to me, that you will come back to Islam.
 We think you are deceived.
 But anyway, they call us different kind of names.
 They call me different kind of things.
 They say different kind of things.
 And the same thing they are doing today to Christians in this country and in every other part of the world.
 But Jesus said to us, rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven.
 For so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
 But there is something that is very key, verse 11.
 Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you and say all kind of evil against you, but mark this, falsely, make sure it's false.
 Yeah? Make sure it's false.
 When it's false, you are fine.
 Yeah? That is very key.
 Falsely, for my sake.
 The timing is important for God to have all the glory.
 Long time ago, I did a teaching on waiting on the Lord.
 And it's very important the time that we do things.
 If we do things, we do things at the wrong time.
 You know, the Bible says everything is what? Beautiful in its own time.
 So when it's not the time, it doesn't look as beautiful.
 Though the thing itself might be beautiful, you know how we get excited during Christmas.
 But, you know, in the middle of May, if you come and say, oh, everybody, we're going to have a Christmas meal.
 Oh, no, that's not the time.
 Christmas is December, not in May.
 Christmas is beautiful.
 Isn't it? Especially for my children.
 I think for the adults as well.
 I don't know how much for the adults, but they enjoy it.
 But Victoria would not come to me and speak about Christmas in June, in May, because she knows it's not the time.
 So the timing is very key.
 And verse 10 to 13.
 But when his brothers had gone up, then Jesus also went up to the feast, not openly as it were, but as it was.
 In secret.
 Then the Jews sought him at the feast and said, where is he? 

We are expecting him to be here.
 Where is he? We know he will be here.
And there was much complaining among the people concerning him.
 Some said he is good.
 Others said no.
 On the contrary, he deceives the people.
 However, no one spoke openly of him, for the faith of the Lord is not the same.
 The faith of the Jews is for the good of the people.
 
 So when Jesus went to the feast, it was not with his brothers or according to the timing of his brothers, but of his father.
 So Jesus didn't go according to the timing or expectation of his brothers, but he went according to the timing of his father.
 Again, very key.
 Not as they expected openly.
 Go and show yourself, but go and show yourselves.
 and show yourself.
 Go and tell them I've arrived.
 Go and show to them what you are made up of.
 Have you ever had anyone say to you that you need to prove to them? Jesus got nothing to prove because he knows he's secured in who he is.
 And he's not trying to impress anyone.
 He said, not as expected, which is openly show yourself, but in secret, Jesus went.
 You know, in Isaiah 55, it says, because my thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways my ways, says the Lord.
 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than yours and my thoughts than your thoughts.
 So sometimes what we think is completely not what God is thinking.
 And sometimes it seems so right.
 It seems, yeah, give it to them.
 But it's like, no, it's not time.
 My ways are higher.
 My ways are bigger.
 Everyone has their opinion about Christ.
 And there was a division.
 Some said he is good.
 And some said, no, he is a deceiver.
 And you know, this is what I have found out on the street.
 Again, this is out of experience.
 So this is how I share the gospel when I'm on the street.
 So I said to people, have you ever heard about Jesus? And to be honest, everyone has some kind of idea about Jesus.
 And I said, is that right or wrong? I've had people say to me, yeah, I think he was a good man.
 I've had people say to me, no, I don't know.
 I'm not sure.
 I think he's all right.
 Some say, no, I don't believe.
 It's all made up.
 It's all nonsense.
 It never happened.
 This is real life.
 This is what has happened to me on the street.
 And I said to people, oh, what do you think then? So the first thing they tell me, which is very interesting, is they'll tell me what they've been told about Jesus.
 And I said, what do you think about Jesus? So after they've told me about that, so I said to them, so what do you think about him then? Now forget about what they've told you, yeah, whether he's right or wrong.
 So what do you make of him? And the people start to tell me, I think maybe, maybe, maybe he was all right.
 Do you believe he's God? No, I don't think so.
 And then everyone have their opinion.
 So we read, the same thing happened here.
 There was a division.
 You see, you can never hear something about Jesus and remain neutral.
 I've had people that says, I'm neutral.
 No, you can never be neutral.
 Like a preacher said, you can't sit on the fence.
 It's not comfortable.
 
So you cannot sit on the fence.
 It's not comfortable.
 You've got to be on one side of the fence -  You cannot sit on the fence.
 It's not.
 So you cannot hear something about Jesus and remain neutral.
 Then as we go on, as well as now, then as well as now, Jesus divides people.
 Those who heard him and knew him couldn't remain neutral.
 They decided one way or another regarding who Jesus is, either good or a deceiver.
 And I remembered when I was reading this scripture, one thing that Pastor Barry said a long time ago.
 He said, the worst thing you can say to a person is to say, I don't trust you.
 That is like the most painful thing you can say to someone.
 It's like the most derogatory thing we can say to someone.
 Look it in their face and say to them, I don't trust you.
 It's like, I don't believe you.
 You might be lying to me.
 You might be deceiving me.
 You are a deceiver.
 So in a way, human, yeah, these people, this second group, they call Jesus a deceiver.
 They don't trust him.
 
 That's the only thing he says.
 Verse 14.
 Now, about the middle of the feast, you see, again, perfect timing.
 Not at the beginning, about the middle of the feast, Jesus went into the temple and he taught.
 And the Jews, they marveled, saying, how does this man know letters? I've never studied.
 How does he know? You see, the first thing Jesus did in John chapter 2, from verse 13 to 17, was when Jesus came into the temple and he cleansed the temple.
 He sent out those who are buying and selling.
 He said, look, this is my Father's house.
 You have turned into the house of thieves and, you know, you are doing your own transactions.
 So what Jesus did, the first time he went to the temple for the Passover was to cleanse the temple.
 And I believe this is very significant for us as Christians.
 So before Jesus taught in the temple, he cleansed the same temple.
 So brothers and sisters, for Jesus to do something significant in our lives or through our lives, he has to do the work of cleansing first.
 We have the temple.
 It's not only about the building.
 It's not only about the bricks.
 So Jesus has to do some work of cleansing in me.
 He has to do some work of cleansing in you before he can teach me, really.
 Before he can teach me, before my life could be of any significance in his kingdom.
 

How does this man know the letters having never studied? So according to their standard, he doesn't have the qualification or education to be able to teach as he did.
 It's like, where is he from? Who is his teacher? How could he speak so excellently? It seems this guy knows the law.
 He would not know more than we that we've studied for years.
 It seems he knows more than we do.
 Of course he does.
 It's the word himself.
 He's from the beginning.
 

He had no degree.
 He had no teacher.
 He hasn't been to any Bible college or seminary.
 But, Jesus is anointed.
 We read in Mark chapter 10 verse 38 to 39 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power and went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed.
 So Jesus had the anointing.
 Jesus never had a teacher but he has been anointed by the Holy Spirit.
 In Luke 4, 18 it said, the Spirit of the Lord God is upon me because he has anointed me and he carried on to preach the gospel to the poor and went into the detail.
 So Jesus wasn't taught by any man and I've got a question by the way, for them.
 Who can teach the one who knows all things? What can any teacher teach Jesus? I don't know.
 Nothing.
 Absolutely nothing.
 The Jewish leaders knew that Jesus had not studied or had been a disciple under a prominent rabbi.
 This is the rabbi who had no rabbi.
 Yeah? This is a teacher who had no teacher.
 Again, speaking in detail about who Jesus is.
 Who can teach the one who knows all things? And in verse 16 it carries on.
 Jesus answered them.
 This is where it gets interesting.
 So don't fall asleep now.
 It gets interesting at this point.

 My doctrine is not mine but he's who sent me.
 If anyone wills to do his will, we've got double wills there.
 If you will, to do God's will, this is what will happen.
 You shall know concerning the doctrine whether it is from God or whether I speak of my own authority.
 So they were so impressed how Jesus spoke in power, with the boldness, with the courage, with the authority he had.
 They were like, oh, how did he know all these things? Remember, Jesus didn't come and say, oh, because I've been really studying for years.
 Because I've made a lot of research.
 Because I found out.
 So Jesus didn't make it even by himself.
 And I'll go into the details of that later.
 He who speaks from himself seeks his own glory.
 But he who seeks the glory of the one who sent him is true.
 And no unrighteousness is in him.
 Did not Moses give you the law? Yet none of you keeps the law.
 Why do you seek to kill me? And Jesus didn't say, out of nowhere, ask them a question.
 They were like, ooh, what is going on here? You see, Jesus ended up teaching, you see, anyone filled with God's spirit cannot be quiet when they have to speak.
 
However, this is the main key.
 Not our own doctrine, or for vain glory, but for the doctrine of Christ and for his glory.
 So when we speak, when we teach, wherever we do, make sure let's be sure it's not for our own vain glory, but for the glory of Christ.
 For the glory of the one who deserves the glory, who deserves the praises.
 Not you, not me, no human can take his glory.
 He said, I would never share my glory with anyone.
 We are not to convert people to ourselves or to our own ideas, but we are to convert people to Christ.
 We are not to speak of ourselves, but of him.
 It is all, about Jesus.
 It is all about him.
 It is all about what he's done.
 There is a great spiritual principle behind the words, if anyone wills to do his will, he shall know concerning the doctrine.
 You see, spiritual understanding is not produced solely by learning facts and procedures.
 I've seen that many times.
 Because, you know, I'm an accountant by profession.
 I got qualified as a child accountant.
 And there are a lot of things you just have to give it to them back as they've given it to you.
 

Although we call ourselves that we are principle-based, so in accounting words, in accounting words, they teach us the principle because they know in real life things are different.
 So they say to you, look, in real life, you won't have all the numbers.
 You won't have everything you're looking for.
 But we are going to give you a principle that you can use irrespective of what the situation is.
 So this is not accounting.
 Jesus is saying to me, yeah, your understanding is not produced solely by learning the facts or procedures, but rather, it depends on obedience to known truth.
 So I have a question for you.
 What have you done to the truth that you know? Why are you seeking for more? But what have you done with the one that you know already? So this is what Jesus is challenging them about.
 He said, look, you guys, you thought you know the law.
 Number one, you don't even understand it.
 But anyway, you think you do.
 But if you truly do, what have you done with the ones that you know? Because if you have done your study properly, you will know me that I'm standing before you.
 This is the Messiah.
 This is the one you've been reading.
 This is the one you've been studying about.
 This is the one you spent your life researching about.
 And yet, here I am, you have no clue.
 So it's not about how much you know.
 In a sense, it is about who you know and how much you spend with the one you know.
 You remember in Acts 4v13 with Peter and John, they marvelled when they saw the boldness at which they preached.
 And they said, ah, no wonder they have been with Jesus.
 I hope people can say that about you and I today.
 That, ah, I say it's been with Jesus.
 So it wasn't about Peter and John, but it's because of who they spent that time with.
 Though the Pharisees and the Sadducees and whatever this political, I mean, this religious group, they've been studying, but yet, they were in darkness.
 Spiritual understanding is not produced just by learning more facts.

 Verse 18 tells us we must seek His glory, not our glory.
 Jesus didn't point to His credentials, but to His doctrine.
 Look, I haven't come to impress you.
 I've come to just ... you just listen to what I'm saying and find out whether I'm making things up, whether it's all lies, whether I'm a deceiver, like some of you said, or whether I'm telling the truth.
 And verse 20 to 24, the people said to Him, you remember, Jesus said to them, why do you seek to kill me? And they were like, kill you? No, you have a demon.
 Who wants to kill you? And then, He reminded them of what happened in John 5, verse 1 to 15.
 You remember when Jesus healed the man who was paralyzed for 38 years? And He said, look, you guys, you were not happy with me.
 You wanted to kill me because I healed a guy on the Sabbath.
 But He said, if you were to circumcise someone on the Sabbath, you would circumcise someone on the Sabbath.
 So they see getting healed on the Sabbath as evil.
 And Jesus reminded them.
 And here is the summary.
 Jesus said to the man who was paralised in John 5 from 8 to 9, He said, He said, rise, take up your bed and walk.
 And immediately the man was made well.
 He took up his bed and walked.
 There was no problem until the next word.
 And that day was the Sabbath.
 That is a problem.
 You don't pick up your mat on the Sabbath.
 That is classified as walk.
 How interesting.
 You can't be set free on the Sabbath.
 Now, it's Sabbath.
 You see, this is what religiosity does.
 This is what legalism and tradition.
 It keeps people in chain.
 This is how we are doing.
 This is how we've been doing it.
 This is the only way we've been doing it.
 This is all that we know.
 This is what Moses told us.
 But you can circumcise someone on the Sabbath.
 Yes, that's fine because Moses said it.
 But Jesus can't heal on the Sabbath.
 No.
 No.
 The man should never pick up his mat on the Sabbath.
 He should be laying there.
 He's been there for 38 years, by the way.
 He can spend another more 38.
 But Jesus said, “No”.
 You see, guys, you got me wrong.
 You thought you understood the law, but you don't.
 You are not getting the point.
 You thought I'm the one being bad here and you want to kill me because I've been good, actually, not because I've been bad.
 And they said to him, we did not seek to kill you.
 Jesus said to them, I did one walk.
 And he told them about that walk.
 And you heard marvel.
 Moses, therefore, gave you circumcision.
 Not that it is from Moses, but from the Fathers.
 And you circumcised the man on the Sabbath.
 If a man receives circumcision on the Sabbath, so that the law of Moses should not be broken.
 To keep the law, you would do that.
 Are you angry with me because I made the man completely well on the Sabbath? And Jesus made this amazing statement.
 He says,
 “Do not judge according to our parents, but judge with righteous judgment.”
 And this is very important that we should bear that in mind, especially as Christians, when we make our judgment.
 They decided that Jesus appeared to be a sinner and they appeared to be righteous.
 They were wrong each time and they needed to judge with righteous judgment instead of only by our parents.
 What it seems like.
 For them, on the physical, it seems like Jesus is the bad one, but actually it's the opposite.
 And verse 25 to 29 tells us, now some of them from Jerusalem said, is this not he whom they seek to kill? But look, he speaks boldly and they say nothing to him.
 Do the rulers know indeed that this is truly the Christ? However, we know where this man is from.
 But when Christ shall come, no one knows where he's from.
 So you can see the people here a little bit confused.
 Look, this guy seems like he's the Messiah.
 It looks like he's the one.
 But we have a dilemma.
 We are not sure about something because we read in Malachi 3v1,
 when Christ shall come, when the Messiah shall come, nobody would know.
 We wouldn't know, but we know.
 We know the Father.
 We know the mother.
 You see, the people from Jerusalem knew that the religious leaders wanted to kill Jesus, but the crowd that came for the feast did not know about it.
 But those from Jerusalem did.
 Yet they were all amazed that the rulers would not and could not even if they want to.
 Why? Because Jesus is walking according to the timing of the Father.
 And this is what gives me confidence.
 Honestly.
 This is what gives me joy.
 This is what gives me peace.
 When I know I'm in the father's will.
 The kind of boldness that I have is different.
 
There is no fear.
 There is no concern.
 There is no anxiety.
 When I know I'm in the father's will, I've got no worry.
 Because I’m sure.
 And Jesus knew this.
 Even if they wanted to stop him, they could not stop him.
 No one can stop God.
 You cannot stop God.
 He speaks boldly and they say nothing to him.
 Jesus was never afraid or intimidated by the threat.
 He still spoke boldly and with such boldness that no one could make him stop.
 And they say, You know where this man is from.
 Many, but not all, of the Jews at that time believed the Messiah would appear suddenly, as it were, out of nowhere.
 And this is the scripture in Malachi 3 v 1.
 He said, Behold, I send my messenger, and he will prepare the way before me.
 Speaking about John the Baptist, he prepared the way.
 In Malachi 3 v 1.
 And the Lord whom you seek will suddenly come.
 So that suddenly they thought he would just come from nowhere.
 He would just appear.
 
To his temple.
 Isn't that interesting? Because at this point Jesus was in the temple.
 The temple he placed.
 The temple he's teaching now.
 He will come to even the message of the covenant.
 In whom you delight.
 Behold, he is still coming, says the Lord of hosts.
 So there's a little bit of confusion here.
 We know the Messiah will come, but some people think he will come as it were, that suddenly we wouldn't know where he's come from.
 We wouldn't know about his generation.
 But yet, we read in Micah, if you remember, in Micah 5.
 But you, Bethlehem, though you are little among the thousands of Judah, yet, out of you shall come forth to me the one to be ruler in Israel, whom who's going forth.
 From of old, from everlasting.
 So we know where the Messiah will come from.
 Out of Bethlehem.
 And Jesus was born in Bethlehem.
 But there is a confusion here.
 He was born in Bethlehem, but he grew up in Nazareth.
 In fact, most of the time people call him Jesus of Nazareth.
 Don't they? So they were like, ah, okay.
 We don't know now.
 And genuinely, I believe, this group genuinely, they don't know.
 
We thought he would appear suddenly.
 Okay, he would come from Bethlehem.
 Maybe they should have said to Jesus, by the way, sorry, Jesus, to be rude.
 Where were you born, by the way? Oh, I was born in Bethlehem.
 Okay.
 Maybe that would have helped them a little bit.
 But that didn't happen.
 We know where this man is from.
 We don't know if the people thought this man was from Bethlehem or this man comes from Nazareth.
 They probably associated Jesus with Nazareth because they call him Jesus of Nazareth.
 They thought they knew where he was from, but they were unaware of his heavenly origin.
 He said, I am from him, and he has sent me.
 The crowd were perhaps confused about where the Messiah would come from, but Jesus knew exactly where he came from, and Jesus was not a confused man, wondering if he was really or truly the Son of God.
 Jesus knew.
 That was done and dealt with.
 Jesus wasn't confused.
 He wasn't a confused man.
 Who is Jesus? Where is he from? This is a question for each of us to settle.
 If I say to you today, who is Jesus? You remember when he says to Peter, who do people say I am? They say you are this, you are that, you are that.
 And he says to a personal question, who do you say I am? And Peter said, thou art Christ.
 

And he says to him, flesh and blood has not revealed that to you.
 So I'm saying to you today, who is Jesus to you? If I ask you the question today, what would you say to me? Who is Jesus? What would you say? 

So carrying on from verse 30, therefore they sought to take him, but no one could lay hand on him.
 Not lay hand on him to pray for him, but lay hand on him to do him evil.
 Because, because his hour, again, had not yet come.
 And many of the people believed in him and said, when Christ comes, which I really love this statement, it makes me really think.
 You see, say for example, let's assume this is not the Messiah, the people are saying here.
 But when Christ comes, when the Messiah comes here, will he do more signs than this which man has done? 

Say for example, say let's imagine, he's not the one.
 It wasn't Jesus.
 Okay, when the Messiah comes, is he going to do more than what this man has done? Is he going to give sight to the blind? Is he going to heal the sick? Is he going to fulfil all the prophecies that were foretold before him? Is he going to change life? And to make it more personally, is he going to change my life? Because my life has been changed.
 Because I met Jesus.
 
So when Christ said this is not the one, when the real one comes, will he do more than what this man is doing? And the people began to question.
 No one lays hand on him, not until the right time.
 No one could lay hand on Jesus.
 There would come a time when Jesus would say, the hour had come.
 But until that hour, Jesus was protected.
 You see, as believers and followers of Jesus, we can be sure of his protection.
 He watches over his own people.
 In Matthew 10, 29-31 it says, And not a sparrow stood for a copper coin, and not one of them falls to the ground apart from the Father's will.
 For the very hairs of your head are all numbered.
 Do not fear, therefore, you have more value than many sparrows.
 
 The Lord cares about you.
 He watches over his children.
 He is a good father.
 Nothing happens to you by chance.
 
Friends, either good or bad, in good times, when we are so excited, or in bad times, in challenging times, in those times when we ask God, but why? That's one of the questions I have to answer a lot of times.
 I have to answer a lot of times with my daughter, Victoria.
 She asked me, Daddy, what is this? And when I explained why, I said, but why? I'm thinking, oh, it looks like there'll be a lot of why-s then, because there is always why.
 Oh, this happened because of that, but why did that happen? I'm thinking, you know, sometimes genuinely we have genuine questions.
 I have been in plenty of stages in my life that I've asked God why.
 I've sinned, I've lost people that I love, and I ask God why.

I've been in difficult circumstances.
 I've been in situations I cannot even explain to you.
 I can't begin to express to you.
 And I ask Him, Lord, where are you? 

Why do I have to go through this? And I know you can speak a word and take it away, but for some reason you haven't taken it away.
 Why? Because I'm like Apostle Paul.
 He said, I sought the Lord three times.
 Take this thing away from me.
 But the Lord said, no, I'm not.
 
But there is something, I will give you grace.
 My grace is sufficient for you.
 You know, when those hard questions eat, when we don't know, when it's beyond what we can explain, let's be like Apostle Paul.

Let's seek Him like Apostle Paul did.
 Apostle Paul was persistent.
 He kept knocking for three times.
 Lord, take this thing away.
 
But Apostle Paul didn't stop until when God spoke to him.
 And when God said to him, my grace is sufficient for you.
 Even in that infirmity, in that weakness, I'll prove myself strong.
 So I said, I said to people, when people say, I don't know whether God wants to take it away or not, whether something's going to happen.
 I said to them, keep asking, keep seeking, keep knocking until God gives you a word about that situation.

That is the kind of person that I have been, that I am, that I will continue to be.
 I want to be like the past is the widow.
 I want to be like Apostle Paul.
 I will keep seeking, seeking the Lord.
 I will keep asking.
 I will keep knocking until, if he's not going to take it away, fine.
 I'm not worried.
 But if he tells me, don't worry about that.
 That is not a big deal.
 That's fine.
 I'm happy.
 I'm happy to carry on.
 I've got no problem.
 I've got it settled because you've told me it's not a problem.
 Or the problem will be there and I've kept it there and it's not going away.
 Good.
 If it's not going away, leave it there.
 It's for your glory then.
 If it's not going to go away, I'm happy with it.
 But Apostle Paul was sure you can be like him and we do not need to fear.
 We don't have to be afraid.
 And in verse 32, the Pharisees heard the crowd murmuring these things concerning him.
 And the Pharisees and the chief priests sent officers to go and arrest Jesus.
 Then Jesus said to them, I shall be with you a little while longer and then I go to him who said, send me.
 You will seek me and will not find me.
 And where I am going, you shall not come.
 Then the Jews said among themselves, where does he intend to go? And where to go that we shall not find him? Does he intend to go to the dispersion among the Greeks and teach the Greeks? What is this thing that he said? You will seek me and not find me.
 And where I am, you cannot, you cannot come.
 Jesus knew where he was going.
 He knew where he came from.
 He was going back to his Father in heaven.
 And he knew if they carried on that way, they would never be able to see him.
 But how much more confident are we as Christians and followers of Jesus? Because Jesus not only told us where he's going, he told us he's coming back to take us to that place.
 
What a great privilege - what a great advantage!
 He says in John 14, let not your heart be troubled.
 You believe in God.
 Believe also in my Father's house in heaven and many mansions.
 I like the idea of a mansion.
 
That's part of the Bible.
 I love the idea.
 Some verse, some Bible says are many rooms.
 It's fine.
 I'll be happy as far as I'm before God.
 Whether I'm in a room or a mansion, you know what? I'm not worried as far as I'm before God, as far as I'm in heaven.
 He said in my Father's house are many mansions.
 If it were not so, I would have told you.
 I go to prepare a place for you.
 And I go and prepare a place for you.
 I will come again and receive you to myself that where I am, there also you may be.
 
He says to this group of people, <you will find me. corrected himself>>>>
 You will NOT find me.
 I'm going soon.
 You will look for me and not find me.
 But he said to the believers, he said to you and I today, if you believe in me, but keep believing God, I'm coming again and I will receive you.
 You will be where I am.
 We will be together forever.
 No more separation.
 Those who rejected him will not be with him.
 In John 3, in John 3, 72 to 19, for God did not send his son, Jesus, into the world to condemn the world, but that he, through the world, might be saved.
 He who believes in him is not condemned, but he who does not believe is condemned already.
 This group of people they do not believe.
 So they are condemned already.
 That's why they will not see him.
 That's why they will look for him and not find him.
 Yes, also in the physical, because Jesus knew his time is coming.
 When he gets to John chapter 12, he will say, right, now is the time.
 And Jesus begins to arrange the event.
 Now is the time.

And this is the condemnation that the light has come into the world and men loved darkness rather than light because their deeds were evil.
 And this is the end of the scripture.
 Verse 37 to 39.
 You remember, all of this is going on.
 You almost forgot about the Feast of the Tabernacle.
 I'll remind you.
 All of this is going on at the Feast of the Tabernacle.
 Yeah? This wasn't in a random, so there's a significance of this Feast.
 And we are going to go into detail of that.
 But before that, I want to read this word of Jesus that really, really struck me and that really, really changed my life.
 On the last day, that great day of the Feast, Jesus stood and cried out.
 So Jesus wasn't speaking like a gentleman here.
 He cried out.
 He projected his voice.
 Jesus spoke loudly.
 He said, If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink.
 He who believes in me, as the scripture has said, out of his heart, or if you have a different translation, out of his belly, will flow rivers of living water.
 And thank so much to John who doesn't leave us guessing.
 He told us exactly what he was saying.
 He gave us a commentary.
 John gave us a commentary, verse 39.
 But these he spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in him would receive, for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.
 So John gave us a commentary to that wonderful statement that Jesus made.
 It says on the last day, let's talk about the Feast of the Tabernacles.
 I'll be very quick.
 This is where I found out.
 The Feast of the Tabernacles lasted eight days.
 It's in our home.
 We call it seven days, but because of the Jewish day, it starts.
 So it's over, it's over, lasted eight days.
 It was specifically to remember their wilderness wanderings, what happened to them.
 During the Feast, they would pour water in memory of the water from the rock at Horeb.
 You remember how God looked after them, how God supplied their needs, especially for water.
 You know, that was one thing that came up in our Sunday school last week.
 I will tell you because you were not there.
 You know, we do have fun in Sunday school.
 Do you know that? In Sunday school, at the kids' church, we have fun.
 So last week, we were talking and random, which is why I like Sunday school, there was a discussion which wasn't planned.
 It wasn't part of the teaching.
 And someone said, do you know, one of the children, I love it when they speak like that, do you know there is so much you can go for without drinking water and you will die? I said, yes, you are right.
 It's true.
 You can go for certain days without water and start to die.
 You can do a little bit longer without food, but water, there is so much you can go.
 I said, yes, you are right.
 So God will provide them, not just, you know, the manna from heaven, but God provided them water at the rock at Horeb and every day.
 All through the first seven days, water from the pool of Siloam which means scent, was carried in a golden pitcher and poured out at the altar to remind everyone of the water God miraculously provided for a thirsty Israel in the wilderness.
 This is a reminder to see how God has been faithful to us in the past, how he supplied us water.
 So for the first seven days, they would literally show the picture.
 They would get the water and pour the water to show, how God poured out the water as it were for them where they were in the wilderness.
 And on the eighth day, there was no pouring of water.
 Only prayers for water.
 This is to remind them that they came out into the promised land.
 And also to indicate that their thirst was not yet satisfied, i.e. , that is, the Messiah was yet to come.
 They were not satisfied.
 And they would read from Isaiah 12.
 And let's read what they would read.
 This is what they would read.
“Therefore, with joy, you would draw water from the wells of salvation.
 And in that day, you would say, praise the Lord, call upon his name, declare his deeds among the people, which is what they were doing.”
 At the Feast of Tabernacle, they were declaring, they were showing people.
 They said, make mention that the name is exalted.
 Sing to the Lord, for he has done excellent things.
 This, this, this, this is known in all the earth.
 Cry out and shout, O inhabitants of Zion, for great is the Holy One of Israel in your midst.
 How did they miss that? 

You see what Jesus was trying to say? 

It's almost like I could feel, I may be wrong to use that term, the frustration of Jesus.
 It's like, guys, you are missing out.
 When he was challenging the Pharisees, when he was challenging the leaders, you've read the scripture.
 Now, I am in your midst.

I'm fulfilling that prophecy, that word.
 And this is what they will read.
 And you can imagine, you could seen the hidden flowing water, not only there, but the where.
 for the sake of the child.
 But you Family, just to you, when we come here at this day, Lord, we know that every day those who are faithful.
 That which is called to us, that at the last day is our life.
 Our worldly days, of forgiveness, If anyone thirsts on this particular eighth day, on the last day, 

where no water is carried or poured, if anyone thirsts, let him come to me.
 But look, there is a condition.
 Although it is for anyone, whether Greek or Jew, American, whether African or British or American, to use the modern term, wherever you come from, whoever you are, anyone, for there is a criterion, if you are thirsty.
 
If the thirst is not there, you won't see the need for water.
 Isn't it? We don't think about water when we are not thirsty, do we? But if you are really thirsty, you would appreciate water.
 If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink.
 He who believes in me, as the scripture has said, out of his belly, that is, out of his innermost being, will flow the rivers of living water.
 Verse 30.
 But this he spoke concerning the spirit whom those believing in him would receive, for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.
 Exactly, that is correct that is absolutely correct.
 Because Jesus said to them in John 14, Guys, it's better that I go away.

Because if I don't go, he's not going to come.
 So all in the Old Testament we've seen, the Spirit of God, the Holy Spirit, came upon people.
 But not into people, not in people, not dwelling in people.
 But when Christ was glorified, we saw that in John 20, 22, when Jesus came back in a glorified body, he breathed on them and he said, Receive the Holy Spirit.

He breathed on them.
 Then the Holy Spirit dwells inside of them.
 So brothers and sisters, if you believe in Jesus, you have the Holy Spirit, the same power that rose Jesus from the dead, the same Spirit now dwells inside of you.
 We are now.
 Now is temple.
 Okay? There is no more physical temple, as it were.
 You are the temple, not the bricks.
 Okay? Not the massive cathedrals.
 The people are the temple.
 Now God dwells within you.
 Not more in the cathedral.
 Not in the temple.
 Now, God in his amazing wisdom, says, Refuse to be restricted.
 He said, I will come into them.
 I love these guys so much.
 

Let's dwell together.
 Let's be together.
 Then they don't have to go anywhere.
 I'm there.
 He said, they will receive.
 So the Holy Spirit in you will subdue your lusts and propensities.
 Walk in the Spirit, we are told in Galatians 5, 16-17.
 And you shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.
 The Holy Spirit in you will impart liberty.
 This is where the Spirit of the Lord is.
 There is freedom in 2 Corinthians 3, 17.
 And not only will you be at liberty, but you will also become an agent, setting others free.
 Because when the Spirit came upon Jesus, he went about setting people free.
 We reveal the things of Christ to you.
 He said in John 16, he said, He will take of what is mine and show it unto you.
 This is the Holy Spirit in you.
 He will present the truth of God and the things of God to your mind.
 He will impart light and wisdom.
 And he will guide you into all truth, we are told.
 He said, he will sustain you in the hour of your affliction.
 I will not leave you comfortless.
 Jesus said, I will send you the comforter.
 He will come inside of you.
 He will be with you.
 He will impart to you the virtues of holy character.
 In Galatians 2, 22-27, he told us, The fruit of the Spirit is this, joy, love, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.
 Against this there is no law.
 And these and those who are Christ have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.
 If we live in the Spirit, this is very key.
 If the Holy Spirit is inside of you, if you have believed in Christ and confessed your sins, you are free.
 You can confess your sins and put your faith and trust in him.
 
If we have the Holy Spirit inside of you, let us walk in the Spirit.

So let us keep in step with him.
 So that's why Christ kept in step with his Father's will, with his Father's plan.
 That's why he knew when to go, when not to go, when to speak, when not to speak, how to live and not to live.
 The Holy Spirit in you gives the adoption, gives the witness of adoption and salvation.
 The Bible says the Spirit bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God.
 It's the guarantee, it's the seal, it's the mark, it's the trademark as it were, that you have been saved, that you have been set free.
 So brothers and sisters, this is what I've got in mind to share with us today.
 On the last day, Jesus cried out, if anyone thirsts.
 And I just want us to, I don't know whether to use the word, I want to challenge us in this way.
 Because some people don't like challenge, but for we, from my part of the world, we like challenge.
 In fact, it makes you want to do it.
 If someone says to you, I challenge you, I cry, come on then, tell me what it is, and I'll show you.
 So when someone says to me, I challenge you, my brain is going, I'll do that.
 But maybe it's just me.
 But I'm not telling us in that way.
 But I want you to be challenged, to proclaim this word of Christ out to other people.
 Say to them, there is one who is able to quench your thirst.
 You see, Jesus uses the natural events that is happening to communicate a message of the supernatural.
 He always does that.
 In John 4, when the woman came to the well to get water, He said, I will give you water.
 And the woman, she's got no clue.
 She said, give me this water so that I don't come here to fetch every day.
 He said, no, you didn't get it.
 I will give you the kind of water that you will never taste again.
 In John 6v 35, which we did last week with the children at the kids' church.
 Jesus said, I am the bread of life.
 He used the illustration because in John 6, He provided them bread.
 And they were like, give us the bread.
 Jesus said, no, you are not looking for me because of what, you just wanted the bread.
 But I'm going to give you the kind of bread that you will never hunger again.
 So where there was no water on the last day of the feast, He said, look, I'm able to give to you the Holy Spirit that you will never taste again.
 It will satisfy your soul forever.
 So let us go out in that confidence, in that joy, in that freedom.
 Just share with someone.
 Can I challenge you this week? Say to someone.
 And if you are bored enough, next week, come and tell me.
 I share with someone and this is what happened.
 I'm just joking.
 You don't need to tell me.
 But I'm just trying to encourage us.
 We have been set free.
 Let's go out.
 Let's share our stories.
 Let's speak to people.
 Let's tell them about Jesus.
 It's not hard.
 I remember once on the street, a Christian came to me, very lovely man.
 He said, I wish I could do what you guys are doing on the street, going out and what she said, he said to us, he said, but I haven't got the confidence.
 I said, look, I've got no confidence either.
 I'm one of the, people sometimes people don't know that, people that actually stand to speak, they're one of the quietest people that I've seen.
 They're like, they don't even like being on the stage.
 And it doesn't excite me like, ah, I'm really excited.
 I'm standing at the front.
 No, it doesn't.
 Sometimes it could be frightening, especially when you have a certain kind of audience, but these are beautiful audience.
 I'm more relaxed.
 I'm just saying, it's time.
 It's not about you.
 You see, the reason why you are not doing it is because you're thinking about you.
 You can't do it.
 Yes, you can do it.
 I'll be honest.
 You can do it.
 I cannot do it.
 But by his Holy Spirit, he knows we can.
 He will help us communicate it in your own simple way.
 You don't need to look for a magic or for, for your formula.
 There is no formula.
 The formula is you, is your personality, is who you are.
 Invite a friend over for dinner.
 Meet a friend at a coffee place.
 Who you know doesn't know Jesus.
 Okay? Don't invite me.
 Don't invite anyone from this church.
 Somebody else that you know doesn't know Jesus.
 And tell them about Jesus.
 Tell them about the life he's suffering.
 Okay? And I just want to challenge us in that way.
 We have been saved.
 We are one of the most blessed.
 One of the most blessed people in the whole planet.
 The world should see that in us.
 And people might say to me, well, it's because, you know, you've got no problem.
 Can I tell you the truth? I've got a lot of problems.
 If I start sharing with you, you will think, oh, really? Everyone has put that aside.
 Because one day, the problem is you are going to live, or I'm going to live the problem.
 I don't know whether you get that.
 I won't go into the detail of that.
 One day, yeah, you will live the problem, or the problem will leave.
 I'm not going to go into the detail.
 So I'm trying to tell you the problem will always be there.
 There will never be a convenient time.
 There will never be a much easier time.
 It's now.
 Today, the Bible says, is the day of salvation.
 Shall we pray? Heavenly Father, we thank you.
 We thank you for the truth of your word.
 We thank you that your word sets us free.
 We thank you for your Holy Spirit that dwells within us.
 Thank you for all that you've done.
 Thank you for what we've been able to hear, to share today.
 Lord, a lot has been said.
 But Lord, you know each and every one of us.
 You know exactly that which we need to hear.
 Lord, we just pray that you will help us, oh God, to live this word.
 Not just to hear it, but Lord, to live and to act on this word.
 We just thank you because you are good.
 We thank you because you are faithful.
 In your beautiful, wonderful name, Jesus Christ, we have prayed.
 Amen.
