Genesis Chapter 15

This teaching is our 16th session in our verse-by-verse study of the Book of Genesis by pastor Barry – given as part of our family service on 11th June 2017.

In this session, we look at the unconditional covenant that God makes with Abraham. God promised him the Land of Canaan to be a possession for his descendants. This has been one of the most contested ‘land-grants’ in history. Assyria, Babylon, Persia, Greece, Rome, the Byzantine Empire, the Ottoman Empire, the Roman Catholic Church, the UN and EU have all tried to claim ownership of this relatively small and insignificant piece of real estate. There is no oil to speak of, no natural resources, no real reason for the ownership of this land to be so hotly contested – yet it is!

Stephen R. Haynes, in his book “Reluctant Witnesses”, stated, “The survival of the Jewish people is the greatest proof of the existence of Almighty God. If there were no God in Heaven, there would not be one Jewish person on the earth”. Yet, despite the endless persecutions and threats of annihilation, despite being dispersed around the world for the best part of 1900 years, Israel are today a nation in the land promised to Abraham. The governments of the world can say and do what they will, God’s promises are sure and His covenants are immutable.

You can listen to the audio on this web page, or save it for listening to later.  We have also made available the Powerpoint slides (in PDF format) that outline the key points of this study.

We hope and pray this teaching will bless you and encourage you to undertake your own personal study and adventure in God’s Word!
