In this 3rd teaching on the fallacy of the theory of evolution as proposed by Charles Darwin, pastor Barry explains to the children that what they will be taught in school on this subject is somewhat lacking in scientific support! [There is no actual scientific support!]

Even the much-publicised finches on the Galapagos Islands, so often heralded as ‘proof of evolution’, are merely an example of adaptation within a kind – they started off as birds, what did they become? Birds! They did not change into anything else! They already had the genetic information to make a beak, that information allowed for variation, but it did not allow them to become something other than the bird-kind they already were!

It is also important to recognise that, so often, in a classroom setting, children, are asked ‘bad questions’, i.e. questions that lead them to make unjustified assumptions, assuming evolution to be an already proven fact, rather than teaching them to think critically and ask, is evolution scientifically possible in the first place!  – to which the answer is a resounding no!

Then there is the subtle way evolution’s proponents employ a ‘bait and switch’ tactic, pointing to something that is science, such as variation within a kind, when can be observed and is completly in accord with the Bible, but then making the colossal leap to suggest that proves the things we cannot obseve (e.g. reptiles evolving into birds) are also true. It’s the kind of ‘my dog has four legs…. my cat has four legs, therefore my cat is a dog!’ argument.

Another thing, seldom taught, is the various things we have to consider if we are to honestly talk about evolution (rather than merely the indoctrination that pervades our education system). For example, Macro Evolution is most commonly taught (the origin of the major kinds), but no time is given to the discussion of Cosmic or Chemical evolution, without which the show can’t get started in the first place! How do chemical’s come into being? or evolve?

Finally, in this teaching, we considered the still-taught ‘Nebular Hypothesis’. In a nutshll this is the idea that the planets in our solar system all originally came from filaments ejected from our Sun, that then cooled and became the planets we know today. This idea has been totaly debunked by true science!

Incredibly, although popularised by Immanuel Kant in his 1755 book “General History of Nature and Theory of the Heavens”, Kant got much of his ideas from a work published in Latin by Emanuel Swedenborg. Swedenborg claimed he, in turn, had got his information from seances with men on Jupiter, Saturn and places more distant!

Yes, it really is as bad as that! Our education system will champion a theory proposed by a man who claimed to have psychic powers and was given his information by aliens!

The Bible says we must cast down every argument that stops people looking to God. Evolution is exactly that, and since Michael Gove’s decision, when he was Education Security in 2014, to teach evolution to primary school children, we must challenge the non-science that is being taught to our children as a true account of our origins.

Simon highlighted that there are two opposing worldviews that are constantly in conflict with each other. One is based on man’s wisdom and follows man’s rules. The other is based on the Bible – God’s wisdom – and His rules.

As parents, grandparents and any who have influence and impact in the lives of children, we need to lay a godly foundation for our children based on the Bible in every area of their lives. They will be bombarded by this ‘humanist worldview’ by the education system, the media, the entertainment industry and their peers. However, if we ‘train our children in the way they should go’, giving them a solid biblical foundation and reasons for the questions they have, they will not depart from it.

Those who were with us on Sunday were blessed by Simon’s talk. If you were unable to be there, it is worth listening to, and then sharing with others.

“The family is under attack today like never before. Wise parents need to recognize this and develop their own strategy for protection and counter-attack. A generation is arising around us that knows not the things of God, allowing (and even encouraging) pre-marital sex, abortion, homosexuality, gay marriages, gay clergy, and easy divorce. By and large, they do not believe there is such a thing as absolute truth or absolute morality. Not only is this degenerate generation arising, it already has arisen. While a remnant of truth seekers remains, the attack on the family has the potential to eliminate Christian absolutes from our society.

The attack is coming from those who build their thinking on the anti-God beliefs that are destroying society. This attack on the Word of God has resulted in the demise of the family unit—the very unit God uses to transmit the knowledge of himself to each generation and the world around”.

In this study, as we look at Chapter 3 of Genesis, the Seed plot of the entire Bible!

The first two chapters of the Bible deal with God’s wonderful creation, then we come to chapter 3. Everything after this chapter deals with fixing the problem of this chapter.

We see the Fall of man and the wickedness of Satan. Satan is not God’s enemy, he is man’s. There is no match or equal to God.

As we move into chapter 3, we are faced with some questions:

Why was the serpent more subtle than anything God had made?

Why did Eve enter into conversation with a talking snake?

When & why did Eve sin?

Why did Adam follow Eve into sin?

Why didn’t God stop Adam & Eve from falling?

In this study, as we look at Chapter 2 of Genesis, we see God sanctify the Sabbath, i.e. set it apart. Why was God so insistent on Israel keeping the Sabbath? In Numbers 15:32-36 we have the account of an individual who was put to death for simply gathering sticks on the Sabbath! Now, there is not a person on this planet who would say they think that is a reasonable response, yet we know that God is good and does good (Psalm 119:68). In other words, God cannot do anything that is not good. So how do we make sense of this?

Later in Israel’s history, we find that God actually has Israel removed from their land for 70 years because they had failed to keep the Sabbaths for the land (every 7th year)  – see 2 Chron 36:21

There is far more to the Sabbath than most are aware! As we study scripture we find there is a principle laid down here that has enormous implications. The Sabbath is about rest as opposed to work, and herein is the whole Gospel message!

We also look at the creation of Eve and make some interesting discoveries!

In this study we look at the fifth and sixth day of creation, and we now find the beginning of self-replicating conscious life. This is the first time the word ‘life’ (Hebrew: ‘khah’-ee) appears in the Bible. God makes a clear distinction between non-conscious plants and vegetation, and that which has a distinct self-awareness (specifically here marine life and birds). The Biblical definition for that which is living is that which has blood. “The life of the flesh is in the blood” (Leviticus 17:11). The number 5 in the Bible speaks of ‘grace’, and it is no coincidence that we see a connection between the 5th day, life and blood. If it were not for God’s grace being shown by the blood of His Son, none of us could have true life.

We also look at the abundance of life that God creates in the waters and the air, clearly the result of design by an incredible mind and not the result of chance mutations over millions of years! Evolution is non-science and cannot offer a viable mechanism for the diversity of life, let alone the complexity of life we see around us. The Apostle Paul says that the evidence of God’s creation is so obvious that those who reject God as Creator are without excuse! (Romans 1:20).

We then conclude by looking at the pinnacle of God’s creation – man, who is ‘fearfully and wonderfully made’!

We live in a world where ‘science’ has proven that God does not exist and the Bible is nothing more than ancient folklore – right?

Well, actually no. True science and the Bible will never be in disagreement because they both have the same author!

As Dr Chuck Missler states, “The more you know about modern science, the more comfortable you become with the opening chapters of Genesis!”

This is certainly true in regard to the ‘firmament’ that God creates on day two. The Hebrew word ‘raqia’ actually means a solid expanse. It is from the Latin word ‘firmamentum’ we get our English word that itself implies firm. As we see in this study, the ‘firmament’ is a word that describes two distinct things: firstly a ‘layer’ or ‘canopy’ that divides the water on the surface of the Earth with water that sits above, and is seemingly held in place by, this ancient water canopy that surrounded the ancient world. There is a surprising amount of scientific support for this idea. The second use of the word ‘firmament’ is to describe ‘space’. But how can space be described as ‘firm’ or a ‘solid expanse’? We see in this study that the Bible hints at something science has only recently caught up with!

Genesis is arguably the most attacked book in the Bible (Revelation comes a close second!).

This should come as no surprise because Genesis not only reveals God’s plan for mankind – i.e. to walk with God in harmony – but it also exposes Satan as the enemy and deceiver of the human race.

In this session we consider the ‘why?’ question. Why did God create everything anyway?

We then address something called ‘The Gap Theory’, which suggests there is a gap between Genesis 1:1 and Genesis 1:2, during which time there was purportedly a pre-adamic world where Satan ruled until God destroyed it. This was first proposed by a Scotsman called Thomas Chalmers in 1814 as a way to account for the supposed long geologic ages proposed by Swedenborg/Kant/Hutton/Lyell et al and to remove the perceived contradiction between ‘science’ (so called) and scripture.

So, is ‘The Gap Theory’ Biblical and how old is the Earth anyway?  Can we really believe the Bible which suggests a young earth when so many scientists tell us the Earth and universe are billions of years old?

We also ask, when did Satan fall, and just a importantly, why did he and a third of the angels rebel against God? What could have been so important that he would give up his position as ‘the anointed cherub’? What did he hope to gain?

This study then concludes with some interesting insights to challenge and encourage.
