Men’s fellowship

Monthly

Men are very good at ‘keeping up appearances’, letting the rest of the world think everything is ok. The truth is often very different. Men face external pressure, often in the workplace, but they also face the pressure of expectation to deliver, financially to support their families, or to be able to woo a future wife; emotionally to ‘be there’ for their wives and/or children; and there is also the self-imposed pressure that comes from being part of a church, after all the men of the church are supposed to be strong and upright, the ‘spiritual head of the home’.

Then there is of course the issue of temptation; any man who says he’s cracked it, may not be entirely honest! Jesus said,

Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

Matthew 11:28-30

In other words, there is a way.  Jesus doesn’t want the weight of expectation on us to be overwhelming; He doesn’t want to see us living a lie but to find rest for our weary souls.  We will not overcome the world, the flesh and the devil without Him.

We don’t hold hands or sing songs, there is no weirdness, but we do want God to strip away the façade and continue the work in us that He has begun.  It is sometimes good to know that you’re not alone.
