Welcome to Calvary Chapel Portsmouth

Welcome from Pastor Barry!

I’m glad you’ve stopped by our web-site. Please take a look around, there’s a lot of free teaching and Bible study notes here… but why should you bother?

Well, as we enter 2025 the world is still a crazy mixed-up place to live in! The UK has had a change of government, whether it’s for the better remains to be seen!  Trump has been re-elected as president in the US, and even those hostile to him only a short while ago are now softening. Will he have a positive impact on the world stage? We will see. He is a supporter of Israel, a country the Bible speaks about more than any other nation on earth. What has been taking place in the Middle East, with Israel, Gaza, Iran, Lebanon and now the major change in Syria is hugely significant from a Biblical perspective.

The war in Ukraine continues and we keep hearing of Russian and Chinese attempts to infiltrate and spy on the west. Should we be concerned?

The weather is out of control with record temperatures being recorded in some countries and unprecedented flooding elsewhere.

So, we have wars, rumors of wars, earthquakes, famines, pestilances (diseases etc.) and more –  For two thousand years the Bible has fortold these very things!

For those without an anchor, the world is a really stormy sea to be sailing on right now!

The Bible, however, speaks of there being an anchor for our souls (Heb 6:19), that can keep us both sure and steadfast, and give us peace and hope – even in the midst of global turmoil.

Jesus is that Anchor. He is not just a religious figure, He is alive and can give you reason, purpose and hope in this topsy-turvy world. We would love to share with you more about our Solid Rock. So thanks again for stopping by the Calvary Chapel Portsmouth web site; please take a moment to browse and find out a little about us and what we’re doing.

If you are in the Portsmouth area, come and join us one Sunday. If your not, maybe try to get along to one of the other Calvary Chapels in the UK – go to: http://www.calvarychapel.uk/churches/

If you want to know a little more about us…

Who are we?

We are a non-denominational Christian church based in the UK, in the Portsmouth area, and part of a world-wide network of Calvary Chapel Churches.
We are made up of individuals from many different backgrounds, but one thing we have in common is that we’ve discovered that the Bible is the inerrant, infallible and inspired word of God to His creation, given to us that we might come to know Him.

Bible Teaching:

Contrary to the opinion of many, the Bible is far more than an old religious book. As Bible scholar and teacher Chuck Missler says: “These 66 books, penned by 40 or so authors, over 2000 years are an integrated message system, that provably has it’s origin from outside our time domain”. That should really grab your attention because this concept is staggering to comprehend! Millions are spent on the search for ‘extra terrestrial intelligence, yet we have within our possession a book that purports to be the very word of a God who is outside our space-time. One of God’s unique attributes is that He can “tell the end from the beginning” (Isaiah 46:9-10). God’s amazing plan, from the creation of the universe, to a cross on a hill in Jerusalem some 2000 years ago, to an eternity beyond belief, are all revealed in this book unlike any other in the history of the world.

Our great passion is to teach systematically through the Bible, chapter by chapter, verse by verse.

The Gospel:

The Bible contains two great truths; one utterly terrifying, the other joyful beyond words.

Firstly, the Bible declares that God is good (Psalm 119:68). Why is that terrifying? Because if God is good, what should a good God do with someone like you and I who have sinned (missed the mark), transgressed (deliberately crossed the line), and are full of iniquity (our inherited twisted human nature)? This great truth shows that no matter who we are, and no matter what good we may have done, we have all fallen short of His glory (holy standard) and are therefore deserving of His judgment.

The second great truth is that because God so loved you and I, He gave His only begotten Son – Jesus Christ – that whosoever (and mercifully that includes you and I!),  simply believes by faith in His substitutionary death and subsequent bodily resurrection, shall not perish under the wrath of God, but shall be washed clean from their sin and given the free indescribable gift of eternal life.

If you want to know more about Jesus Christ, the Bible or these two great truths, please come and visit us or get in touch. We’d love to hear from you!

Every blessing,

Pastor Barry.
