Session 37 – The Book of Acts

This study, taught by Pastor Barry Forder, is the 37th session of our ‘Through-the-Bible-in-a-Year’ series recorded during 2014 as part of our Sunday morning family services.

In this session we look at The Book of Acts and see the birth of the Church and the spread of Christianity from Jerusalem, to Judea, to Samaria and then to the uttermost parts of the earth (Acts 1:8).

The book is divided into two distinct sections, with Peter being the main character in chapters 1-12, and then the focus shifts to Paul from chapters 13-28.

It has been suggested that Dr Luke (who wrote this book this book and the gospel of Luke) did so in order to produce ‘trial documents’ that would accompany Paul on his journey to Rome and which would have been necessary for his audience with Caesar (Acts 25:11-12).

One of the key verses in the book is found in chapter 2 v42 where we are given the ‘manifesto’ of the church, namely ‘to continue steadfastly in the Apostles doctrine, fellowship, breaking of bread and in prayer’. These are the essential to the life and growth of the church.

May this overview prompt you to undertake your own study of this divinely inspired book.
