Hebrews – Chapter 6 vs10 – 7 vs28

This teaching, from Hebrews 6 (verse 10) through to the end of Chapter 7, was given by Pastor Barry Forder at Calvary Chapel Portsmouth on the 1st March 2020 as part of our family service.

In this study, we see the writer to the Hebrews build on what he has been saying in the preceding verses, encouraging his hearers to go on to maturity in their Christian faith, and then concludes his argument (that he began in chapter 5), that Jesus is better than Aaron and the Levitical priesthood.

The Levitical priesthood could never make one perfect, it could only condemn. Aaron’s priesthood was bassed on succession in Levi’s family line, but the priesthood of Jesus was just like that of Melchizedek in the Old Testament, not dependant on an earthly father or mother, or particular line, but appointed by God Himself.

When we realise just how great a Salvation we have in Christ, how He is so much better than angels, so much better than the Law (that can only condemn), so much better a deliverer than Moses, so much greater a champion than Joshua,  and so much better a high priest than Aaron, how can we fail to grow in His amazing grace?

If you can read and study these things and remain unmoved, check you pulse! You might already be dead!

May you be blessed, encouraged and challenged by this study.
